Bacs Mc Fasty Captures Two Titles in Last Race of 2005

As the lid flipped open on Gulf Greyhound Park’s last race of 2005, there was more than just an Au Revoir Feature title on the line, at least for Pevehouse Kennel’s Bacs Mc Fasty; with a win, he could also snatch the Track Championship into his sole possession. That is just what he did!

At $8.80 to $1, by far the longest odds that he went off at all year, the three-year old star out of Coldwater Guv and Cajun Magnolia, broke fourth out of the six-hole and maintained the position to the 1/8-pole. Usually, when Bacs Mc Fasty is laying in third or fourth place going by the tote board, the race is over and Mc Fasty is usually the topic of the “fat lady’s” tune, and this race would be no exception.

Looming in third place at the head of the stretch, it was just a sprint to the finish line. With only Too Late and C Ya Movada standing in his way to capture both the Au Revoir and 2005 Track Championship, Bacs Mc Fasty reached down deep and found the strength to nod his head at the line and grab the win and the titles. Mc Fasty traversed the 550-yard course in a quick 30.33, which proved just fast enough for victory.

Along with the Track Championship and Au Revoir crown, Bacs Mc Fasty added other accolades in 2005 to make a serious run at Greyhound of the Year. Back in January, he clocked a 29.87, which was the fastest time over the 550-yard course in over 2 years. In November, he won the Fall edition of the Night of Stars, which began a very nice six-in-a-row win streak. The Au Revoir was his twenty-fourth win of the season, and that was enough to edge the inactive Monterrey Gotile for the wins title by one victory. Monterry Gotile finished with twenty-three wins.

The following is a run-down of the rest of the field in the 2005 Au Revoir: 2nd – Too Late, 3rd – C Ya Movada, 4th – Fissby, 5th – Dirty Dealin Doc, 6th – Bob’s Skeet, 7th – Bob’s Wal, & 8th – Gable Wunderkind.
