Just a couple months removed from losing her father and longtime GGP kennel owner Don Corey to cancer, Denise Corey’s White Oak Kennel reels in an emotional victory by winning the finals of the 2007 $10,000 Texas Fall Sprint Classic with U Too Graceland (Oshkosh Slammer – Maker Me Care).

“This one’s for Daddy,” stated Corey, while fighting back tears at the Winner’s Circle. “He’s got to be watching us right now with a big smile on his face.” Before his death and since coming to Gulf Greyhound Park in 1993, Don Corey rarely missed watching a race. “This (greyhound racing) was his passion and he loved it, especially when we were in the middle of a stakes race…he loved the challenge,” added Corey.

As the box opened for Texas’ second richest race of the year, Bob’s Wal surprisingly stuck his head out first; however, that was very short lived as the mad rush to the turn unfolded. Finding himself in front as the smoke cleared, U Too Graceland entered the backstretch alone. As the rest of the field still jostled for position, Graceland began to extend on his lead. By the time he reached the stretch, he was four-lengths in front of the pack and being declared the winner by track announcer John Paul Faour. As U Too Graceland nosed the finish line, he was seven-lengths in front of the rest of the field and clocked a fast 30.31 over the 550-yard course. This night was truly magical for the new Texas Fall Sprint Champ and the White Oak Kennel.

U Too Graceland paid $16.80 for the win ticket. The remainder of the field ran as follows: DLT White Knight (2nd), CL Skip A Bid (3rd), Bob’s Design (4th), C Ya Heart Flush (5th), Bob’s Wal (6th), Gable Cuidado (7th), and Tip French (8th).
