A Queen Reigns again at Gulf

Whether it was a sibling rivalry or just plain envy of one sister watching another reign as the Queen of Gulf Greyhound Park, it’s hard to tell, but Bob’s Laural, the sister of 2006 King & Queen champion Bob’s Streak, and member of the famed “Litter,” captured the crown on Saturday night, Feb. 3. With this victory comes the bounty of becoming the “Queen” of Gulf Greyhound Park.
This stakes event was over from the time the box popped open. Bob’s Laural, the three- year old daughter of Gable Dodge and Bob’s Fraschilla, is one of the biggest closers at the 550-yard distance at the track, but in this race she decided to beat the box and go to the front, a move that would prove most valuable to her and the Stokes – LaRosa Kennel. “I couldn’t believe it when she went to the front,” said Tommy LaRosa, trainer and kennel co-owner. “I really can’t remember her running a race like that before, but when I saw her nose come out and rush to the front of the pack, I knew she would be real tough to catch.”
Bob’s Laural is no stranger to the winner’s circle at Gulf Greyhound Park. Along with the King & Queen win on Saturday night, she earned a victory in the $15,000 Texas Fall Sprint Classic in 2006. The K & Q stakes victory was her fourth win in six stars in the young 2007 season and establishes her as one of the top sprinters at the track.
“This was a very nice win tonight,” added LaRosa, “It’s amazing how much this litter has accomplished. Along with numerous stakes appearances and victories, the five greyhound siblings out of Gable Dodge and Bob’s Fraschilla, including, Bob’s Skeet, Bob’s Wal, Bob’s Tuscola, Bob’s Streak, and of course Bob’s Laural, have won over 120 top-grade AA races at Gulf Greyhound Park since breaking-in in late in 2005.
The remainder of the King & Queen field ran as follows: 2nd – Eli Skinner, 3rd – Button Hole, 4th – C Ya Wild Fire, 5th – SP’s Cold Turkey, 6th – Gramauldi, 7th – San Tan Sporty & 8th – Bob’s Diva.
The next big stakes event at Gulf Greyhound Park is the $7,500 March Mania. The March Mania is an elimination stakes series that coincides with the NCAA basketball tournament and counts down to a single Champion. Will it be Bob’s Laural again?
