DLT White Knight Repeats in Sheldon Levine Feature
DLT White Knight appears to love the holiday season. On Saturday night, December 15, 2007, he completed a highly unlikely task, winning the 2007 Sheldon Levine Memorial Feature. Although he was a $10.30 to $1 long shot to win the handpicked feature, the unlikely part was actually, what race he won, the Sheldon Levine Feature-two straight years, one-year apart, almost to the day.
The almost three-year old white and red male out of Gable Dodge and Tafe Phobia notched a very nice victory for the Lingle Kennel. Coming out of the five-box, he broke third and rushed around the first turn in the same position behind CL Skip a Bid and SP’s Rags. Early speedster CL Skip A Bid set the early pace, but by the time they cruised by the tote board, White Knight grabbed the lead and soon the glory.
He gained the lead and extended to three-lengths at the head of the stretch and then an awesome eight-lengths at the finish line. This was a serious statement made by a very fast greyhound over an excellent field. Although he has ninety career starts, White Knight is still shy of his third birthday by a couple of weeks.
DLT White Knight clocked a career best 30.07 over the 550-yard course to take home the trophy. The remainder of the field ran as follows: 2nd-Gable Cuidado, 3rd-CL Skip A Bid, 4th-Cry Grace, 5th-SP’s Rags, 6th-Singers Dream*, 7th-C Ya Wild Fire, and 8th-USS Wild Times. |
